Carinity Education Southside celebrated and enjoyed Harmony Day activities on March 21.
Harmony Day celebrates multiculturalism in Australia. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural background.
Elders, parents and other community members visited the school for the Harmony Day event, which commenced with an Acknowledgement of Country.
Student activities included reading poetry, oral presentations, and a fashion parade by students who designed and sewed their own items made of recycled materials. Students also enjoyed a photo booth.
The guest speaker for the event was Kathy Frankland from Community and Personal Histories.
Our school’s hospitality students catered for the event and did an amazing job. As part of their Certificate I in Hospitality, Year 11 students served three courses: breakfast, lunch and dessert.
The students started early on the day to prepare and plate up individual serves of delicious food to serve to guests including sandwiches, fruit salad, Caesar salad, Greek salad, meat and vegetarian pasta dishes, chocolate slices, jelly oranges, jelly and cream cups for dessert.
