Each Wednesday a Gathering event is hosted by Brisbane City Council in Queen Street Mall to showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performances.
This week, in celebration of NAIDOC week, CKNU put on a deadly performance for Wednesday’s Gathering which our students from Year 7 – 11 went along to watch and tap their feet too. The members of CKNU are actually related to our fantastic Year 12 Youth Worker, Shanez. CKNU are an incredible funk/soul/RnB band, made up of an eclectic mix of members.
While it was hot in the city, we popped ourselves down in the shade and spent the afternoon relaxing and listening to the talent exuding from the CKNU boys.
On Thursday the girls from Year 7 – 11 headed over to Murrigunyah in Woodridge to participate in their NAIDOC celebrations. We had a deadly feed, listened to some fascinating speakers and saw some very talented dancers perform. It was a fantastic day out!
Our NAIDOC celebrations have been fantastic so far and it has been humbling to see the girls excitedly learning more and more about ATSI culture and achievements.
