My role at Carinity Education Southside is School Chaplain. This involves supporting the spiritual and pastoral wellbeing of everyone connected with this community; students, staff and families.
I’m available for one-on-one chats but also love getting involved in classes and co-curricular activities. The role is intended to complement the existing supports and provide an avenue for people to explore their faith and values.
I joined the team in June this year. Transitioning into a new team, new role and new environment has reminded me what life was like when I was younger. Adolescents and young people are constantly faced with new situations and challenges. Some people find change exciting and motivating, whilst many of us can find it uncomfortable or even scary.
I’m glad to report that I’ve worked through my initial discomfort, embraced this learning opportunity and found a loving and supportive community at Carinity Education Southside.
The staff are wonderful, but ever more inspiring has been getting to know the girls. I’ve often witnessed their strength and the quality of the relationships they form at this school.
Christians believe that, as we grow, the characteristics of Christ will be manifested in our lives. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us, “…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” It’s truly encouraging to see strengths like these being practiced at school.
I’m pleased to be involved in some exciting developments coming soon, including a wall mural at the entrance to our school (which will be co-created by staff and students), and an expanded breakfast program.
I am at Southside on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please feel free to contact me or drop in for a chat!
