It was an honour to be a part of a Cultural burn off guided by the Fire Lore team at Maryvale on Wednesday 9th June 2021.
Students and staff travelled the highway with the Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School aka the Murri School and Hymba Yumba students and staff to participate and witness the importance of cultural burning on our land and country.
Fire Lore custodians spoke to students about the important ways in which the burn off creates new life and new beginnings for the land and the animals in the area. The experience was so important for our First Nations students’ connections to place and space and to be reminded of the special place they occupy as Custodians of Country.
A big Thank you to the Fire Lore team and the community campaigners who understand the vital significance of these processes for all our communities and the benefits to our natural landscape.
