Our History
Carinity Education Southside is one of five schools operated by Carinity. Our brother school in Hervey Bay, Carinity Education Glendyne, is based on a similar education model and is co-educational. Carinity has other campuses at Rockhampton, Gladstone and Townsville.
In 1997, Carinity Education Southside started operating as a small school to educate young women from troubled circumstances and became an approved school three years later. From the beginning, the school curriculum had been set up specifically to help young women deal with problems that would hold them back in other educational environments.
The school moved to its Sunnybank location in 2002 and one year later, Search Light Inc. provided a crèche near the school. The crèche was set up specifically for the provision of free childcare, early education and family support services to young mothers and pregnant students attending Carinity Education Southside, and to support them in continuing their education while pregnant and transitioning back to school after the birth of their child. The creche is now a part of the school campus.
Carinity purchased the property next to the school in 2012 to provide space for expansion. The construction of the new school building was completed mid-2014. The Year 7’s commenced at Southside in February 2014.
