Curriculum

At Shalom the curriculum plans and assessment cater for all students from Prep – Year 11, as outlined by Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Within this curriculum there is a very clear focus on literacy and numeracy.

At Shalom we believe in providing teaching and learning opportunities which cater for the diverse needs of our Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander learners, while also maintaining the intent of the Australian Curriculum.

Students are at the centre of our teaching practice.  Their needs, backgrounds, perspectives and interests are reflected in the “hands-on” learning programs at Shalom.

Teachers strive to provide relevant learning experiences that are culturally and age-appropriate as well as academically achievable.  When designing the curriculum, teachers seek to understand the readiness of all learners and set challenging but achievable learning goals.  Our College works on the ‘I do, we do, you do’ model of explicit teaching to make learning experiences intentional and meaningful.

“The best part of my day is greeting each student as they enter the school gate. It is heart-warming to see so many smiling faces each morning.  Students learn best when they are happy and actually want to be at school. My staff are committed to ensuring that each child feels; loved by God, valued, safe and has a strong sense of belonging. That is the spirit of Shalom. Our students call it “The Shalom Way”.
