Mercedes with her winning Golding Showcase entry

Carinity Education Gladstone art students are excelling, with their works on display in the Golding Showcase.

Artworks by three students were recognised in the annual exhibition, which celebrates the artistic talents of young people aged 15 to 18 years from the Port Curtis and Callide Valley regions.

Carinity Education Gladstone student, Mercedes, won the Curator’s Choice Award for her powerful artwork, Domestic Violence Awareness.

In her artwork, Mercedes (pictured) explores the important and often challenging theme of domestic violence through the use of graphic lettering, symbolic imagery, and a carefully considered colour palette.

Her innovative typography highlights words and phrases commonly experienced by victims, encouraging viewers to reflect on the impact of domestic violence and the importance of awareness, support, and understanding.

Two fellow Carinity Education Gladstone students, Margret and Michaela, are also exhibiting in the Golding Showcase, which provides emerging artists with the opportunity to display work in a professional gallery setting and share their creative voices with the wider community.

This year, 63 artworks were submitted into the Golding Showcase by students from six secondary schools across the Gladstone region.

The Golding Showcase: Port Curtis Callide Valley Youth Exhibition is on at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum until September 30.
